My political experience spans nearly nearly 20 years, during which time I have worked with others to shift the balance of power and to even the scales, so that all people have a fair share of the social, political, cultural, and economic structures of this country.
I have worked with refugee youth to ensure they receive needed educational support, fought for tuition equity, worked to raise the minimum wage, and advocated paid sick days. I helped to draft a bill that banned police profiling, and eliminated financial incentives for police to push felony drug cases. I have advocated divesting in prisons and investing in education -- and continually fought to improve the lives of average, working class people in our community.
Our district is one the most diverse districts in our state with 37% people of color. Racial and ethnic disparities permeate all social problems in Senate District 24, including housing, economic opportunity, education, health, and criminal justice. To eliminate racial disparities, you have to address the system itself. To that end, I will introduce policies that will both tackle barriers to racial justice and advance policies that move all of us forward.
